We're putting our 'Youth First'!

To celebrate WYSD we're delighted to announce our new name for our new youth programme we're running in partnership with Teach First.

To celebrate World Youth Skills Day, we (Zurich Community Trust) have some exciting news to share. We have a new name for our new programme!

With the help of a little healthy competition (who doesn't secretly enjoy a bit of that?) between Zurich UK employees, we're delighted to announce the new name is... YOUTH FIRST!

We plan to donate £1m to the education charity Teach First over the next five years to fund our new programme which aims to support children in secondary education build and develop core skills and knowledge that will help them make the transition from full time education to the working world.

Key highlights:

- Direct funding will help schools navigate the challenges of Covid-19, support trainee teachers, ensure Year 6 pupils can build key skills as they transition to secondary school

- Zurich employees to volunteer as part of Teach First’s Coaching Programme. 10 this year, 20 more in 2022 and 30 in 2023.

- Employees to support professional development of teachers by coaching them through challenges, helping them improve their performance in the classroom and in leadership positions.

- Running Covid19-secure workshops with students in Year 9, 10 and 11 in schools throughout England, to help go through CVs, get interview advice, and receive a vocational introduction to insurance.

Steve Grimmett, Head of Zurich Community Trust, said,

Teach First’s stellar reputation speaks for itself, so we are thrilled to be investing in them, so they can reach their aims. The past twelve months has put into sharper focus the value of good education programmes. It's important we ensure students have an understanding of how the workforce operates – which will be vital to help them take advantage of employment opportunities.
