Gather your Challenge troops and take a look at the projects available for you to pick from this year. Local charities in the Birmingham area can't wait to invite you back for some DIY make-over magic, valuable virtual ventures, or some good old fashioned party planning!

Our five different project categories are displayed below. Each challenge will be marked with the icon most relevant to that particular project.

 BIRM1  Fashion for a Fraction


The Challenge  Lend a hand icon     

clothes imageNewlife receive clothes and stock from high street donors. They sell the stock in their stores, which brings in much needed funds to support the work they do. Stock needs to be de-labelled before it is placed in their stores. You and your team will volunteer for approximately four hours at Newlife's warehouse, where you will focus on de-labelling and sorting the clothes. At the end of the session, you will receive a 20% voucher to spend on the discounted items - win win!

Newlife the Charity for Disabled Children

Newlife was founded 30 years ago to enable disabled and terminally ill children to get the best possible start in life and have the opportunity to fulfil their potential. They offer a lifeline for families, providing life changing and life saving equipment when, and where, it`s needed. Alongside equipment, they campaign to improve the outlook for disabled children and to change lives.

 BIRM2 Baby Bank Bundles


The Challenge     Lend a hand icon       

Karis Neighbour Scheme would like a team of volunteers to work with their Baby Bank group to help sort and package up donated items for bespoke provisions to vulnerable families. They would also like the team to purchase some items and put together gift sets for the babies and mums. This could include equipment, clothes, bedding, toiletries, toys, books, formula or nappies.

Karis Neighbour Scheme have been working with the local community for nearly 25 years supporting isolated older people and vulnerable local families. They do this through delivery of six bespoke projects that provide specific, focused activities and support services to expectant mums, families on low incomes, people with long term health issues, lonely older people, and isolated men.

 BIRM3 Clothing Store Makeover


The Challenge    Lend a hand icon

SIFA Fireside are looking for a team to makeover their clothing storage area. This would provide an improved space to store and organise their clothing donations. The team would tidy the area, making it easier to access, and purchase a new clothing rail, along with other items, to increase the storage for their men's and women's clothing.

SIFA Fireside

SIFA Fireside operates the main day centre facility for people experiencing homelessness in Birmingham. The centre offers practical support in terms of food, clothing, showers and access to a laundry room. Aside from these offerings, vulnerable adults can receive housing advice, tenancy support, legal advice, job club, financial inclusion advice and health and wellbeing support.

 BIRM4 Birmingham Settlement Zen-sation


 

The Challenge     Gardening icon

Birmingham Settlement are looking for a team to help them put together a Japanese peace garden to aid the serenity of their site. This will involve clearing the area, adding soil and plants, adding decorations and making the area as tranquil as possible. They will be able to advise on any materials which need to be bought prior to the challenge.

Birmingham Settlement tackles social inequality and supports disadvantaged communities, helping people to overcome the barriers they may be faced with. In response to issues such as financial hardship, isolation, unemployment and health inequalities, they provide a range of services to enable people to live happy and healthy lives.

 BIRM5 Sandwell Summer Party

Summer party 2Age UK Sandwell would like to put on a summer celebration party for their wellbeing activity attendees. They need your help to arrange a buffet, refreshments and entertainment (singer, musician or magician). The team will have the opportunity to engage with the older clients and listen to their life experiences. They can all tell a good tale!

Age UK Sandwell works to improve the lives of older people in Sandwell. They offer a variety of services such as dementia care, information and advice and community based activities.

 BIRM6 Summer Social

Age UK Birmingham would like to hold a Summer Appreciation of Carers social event in South Birmingham, during Carer's Week (10-16th June). They need your help to arrange a buffet, refreshments, entertainment and support with an information stand. The carers provide unpaid support to older family members or friends and this event will go some way to making them feel appreciated.

 BIRM7 Pamper Hampers

Canine Partners are putting on a Big Family Fun Day and would like a team to put together some amazing hampers to excite their guests, which will be raffled off at the event. The charity would be willing to collect the hampers and you are more than welcome to attend the event on the day.

Canine Partners

Canine Partners is a registered charity that transforms the lives of people with physical disabilities by partnering them with assistance dogs. Their amazing dogs bring a greater independence and quality of life to their partners, offering security, companionship, and practical help with everyday household tasks. These life-changing dogs also provide psychological and social benefits, including increased independence, confidence, social interaction and self-esteem.

 BIRM8 Fun (Run) in the Sun

Acacia celebrate their 20th anniversary this year. To celebrate, they have put together a team to take part in the Sutton Fun Run on Sunday 2 June. They would like a team to help plan, host and provide food and drink for an after party to thank all their supporters.

Acacia Family Support provides, free of charge, a wide range of individual, group based and peer support services to help parents recover from the symptoms associated with pre and postnatal depression and anxiety.

 BIRM9  40 Years of Where Next

Balloons imageWhere Next's 40th anniversary summer ball will be taking place on Saturday 7 September in Redditch. They would like a team to help them celebrate this milestone by purchasing food for a buffet, along with decorations, for approximately 200 people. They would also be really appreciative of any help on the day to help set up the room.

Where Next (established in 1984) is a local charity providing meaningful work opportunities in a safe, supported environment, for adults with learning disabilities. They also offer lots of social activities and engage, as much as they can, within their local community.

 BIRM10  Party Time

Where Next are holding their main 40th anniversary event on Friday 21 June on-site for all of their clients, parents/carers, invited supporters and local dignitaries. They will have a number of stands and displays and would like a team to support with prizes for the raffle and tombola. They would also like some help setting up, running the stalls and tidying up at the end
