 LOND1   Happiest Day of the Year BBQ


The Challenge    Entertainment

The Happiest Day of the Year is the 14 July. Mind are looking for a team to host a summer BBQ to celebrate the occasion which will take place on Thursday 11 July from 1:30 to 4:30pm. They will invite 50 of their most isolated and lonely services users. Your job will be to work with the charity to purchase items needed for the BBQ, such as food, decorations and some prizes for fun activities that they are planning. You will be there on the day to help cook and serve food, organise activities and chat to users, helping them to enjoy the afternoon.

Mind in Haringey

Mind in Haringey provides information, advice and support to people affected by mental health problems, primarily in Haringey. They work to prevent mental health problems, promote mental well-being and ensure those with mental health problems are respected and included in the local community.

 LOND2   Zurich has Talent!


The Challenge   Entertainment   

 

You are tasked with hosting a joint Zurich and Esther Randall Court Have Talent. You will work with the senior customers at Esther Randall Court in arranging what's sure to be a fun-filled day. It's a great opportunity for the senior living residents to get involved and showcase their talents, whether it's through singing, dancing or any other performance. There will be four judges, two Zurich and two from One Housing, who will chose the worthy winners. Also, if there are any Zurich performers, this is a good one for you as you get the show on the road! Using your budget, you will be required to purchase a cordless mic, three small presents (1st, 2nd and 3rd Prizes) and some cakes and pastries for the refreshments.

One Housing

One Housing supports vulnerable people living with mental health problems, older people, young people with complex needs and the homeless. They endeavour to aid their recovery, support them to sustain their tenancies for when they leave the charity. Their wish is to empower the people they look after, so they feel confident to access the wider community.

 LOND3   Fun in the Sun


The Challenge      Entertainment

Picnic imageThe summer event is usually held at Barham community library, which has indoor and outdoor space. There will be a picnic lunch along with some activities - it's a chance for people living with dementia, and their carers, to meet in a friendly and stimulating environment. Your job will be to help with organise the event, things like ordering food, helping set up, arranging appropriate games, being there as an extra pair of hands to ensure everyone is having a good time. The date is yet to be confirmed, but will be a week day in July.

Community Action on Dementia Brent

Community Action on Dementia Brent (CAD Brent) works across the London Borough of Brent, supporting people diagnosed with dementia, encouraging them to access the network of dementia cafes (15 at present), helping them to stay well and connected with their community, allowing them to stay well for longer. They provide one to one tailored support to ensure people living with dementia stay well and live independently for as long as possible.

LOND4    A Day to Remember


The Challenge      Entertainment

The challenge is to arrange and support with a trip to the London Aquarium for the young people. This trip is a luxury that most of the families the charity works with are unable to access, due to factors that are beyond their control. This experience will most definitely enrich and bring so much joy to the young people, as it will be an adventure away from their daily lives.

Immediate Theatre

Immediate Theatre have been working with young people and communities in Hackney and East London for 25 years to ensure access for all to arts activities that break down barriers and engage people in debate. Immediate Theatre's vision is for a society where questioning, articulate and motivated people create and collaborate to build thriving communities.

 LOND5     Adaptability Workshop


The Challenge      Lend a hand

clothes imageThe challenge is for you and your team to spend a Thursday in June at the Dementia Day Care Centre in Barnet. They will run a Fashion, Memory, and Adaptability workshop through an expert they have coming in. The session will focus on adaptable clothing, so instead of using buttons/zips, they use Velcro. After the workshop, you will be paired with a client. You will support them to repurpose old costume jewellery to easily craft basic new adaptive pieces that can be effortlessly put on and worn by the clients living with dementia. Throughout the day, there will other opportunities to support, such as serving refreshments and helping with lunch. Your budget will be used to either purchase items for the workshop or refreshments for the day.

Jewish Care

Jewish Care is based in London and the South East of England. They touch the lives of 10,000 people per week through their nine residential care homes, four retirement living communities, nine community centres, three centres for people living with dementia, a telephone helpline, a social work service, and special provision for Holocaust Survivors.

 LOND6  Happy Hampers


The Challenge      Lend a hand

The Deborah Ubee Trust work with a range of individuals who are experiencing poor mental health. Some of their clients have been severely effected by the cost of living crisis, which in turn has added even more pressure on their mental health. Your job will be to create ten food hampers for families and individuals who are really struggling. These will be given out to their most vulnerable users who are experiencing real difficulties.

The Deborah Ubee Trust

The Deborah Ubee Trust provides therapeutic services, including counselling for children and adults from 4 years to 80+ years, who are suffering with their mental health.

 LOND7   Secret Garden


The Challenge      Gardening

The challenge is to transform and makeover a 'secret garden' space at their Stratford hub (The Glyn Hopkin Abbey Hub, E15 2RN). With a design currently underway for the new garden space, you will help with the final transformation. Activities will include laying topsoil, plating, decorating a new pond area and other landscaping improvements. The secret garden space will become a new sensory and chill out area for children and young people with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND). They anticipate at least 300 people will access and enjoy the space over the course of the year and will gain significant benefit - including improved wellbeing and learning.

Ambition Aspire Achieve

Ambition Aspire Achieve (AAA) is a Newham based, grassroots charity that exists to improve the lives of local children and young people, by providing them with fully inclusive opportunities and experiences. Their work has a particular focus on engaging and supporting our areas most vulnerable and disadvantaged young people (ages 5-19), delivering a range of activities based out of their youth hubs, providing support to help them overcome challenges, offering interventions that enable them to achieve their full potential.

 LOND8   Doing the London Walk


The Challenge      Lend a hand

The Soup Kitchen have challenged you to walk from the Royal Arsenal in Greenwich to London Bridge. The walk will take place along the Thames Path, covering 15 miles and will take approximately 5-6 hours to complete. To add to the challenge, they would like you to donate items of need using the budget available. The Soup Kitchen needs change on a regular basis, so once you've booked the challenge, they will let you know what items they would like.

The Whitefield Charity SK Corporation

Since 1986, Soup Kitchen London has been a resource for the homeless, elderly, lonely and vulnerable. They provide healthy free meals, clothing, toiletries and a sense of belonging to nearly 200 guests each day. With the help of hundreds of volunteers each year, they provide a nutritious meal in a safe and warm environment that welcomes everyone.

 LOND9  Woodland Wonderland


The Challenge      Gardening

The challenge is to help transform a woodlands space, which will be used by young people for forest school, bush craft and open play. They have lots to do, so your help is greatly appreciated. Activities on the day will include a lot of clearing, but also things like putting together bug houses, bird boxes, buying and laying bark for path and planting. This challenge would be a week day from 10am-4pm and would suit a large team! Project photos >

Ambition Aspire Achieve

Ambition Aspire Achieve (AAA) is a Newham based, grassroots charity that exists to improve the lives of local children and young people, by providing them with fully inclusive opportunities and experiences. Their work has a particular focus on engaging and supporting our areas most vulnerable and disadvantaged young people (ages 5-19), delivering a range of activities based out of their youth hubs, providing support to help them overcome challenges, offering interventions that enable them to achieve their full potential.

 LOND12    Job Swap


The Challenge  Lend a hand    

Jewish Care would like five to ten volunteers to help at their event, between 4 - 6 June. The day will consist of welcoming guests on arrival, keeping a list of who has arrived, supporting users with activities and serving food and drinks throughout the day. They would also like you to purchase little gifts and make up gift bags for the regular volunteers, as a thank you for all their support. In the morning, you will make up the gift bags together with the users, some of which are from the Holocaust Survivor Centre. You will stay for lunch and then serve volunteers and users tea at the Thank You afternoon tea, before handing out the gifts.

 LOND13  Summer Sports Camp


The Challenge     Entertainment 

The Ukraine Refugee Sports Project provides regular sports camps in the school holidays for children of families seeking refuge from the war in Ukraine. The camps run in Burgess Hill (West Sussex). They provide many different sporting activities for the children, as well as arts and crafts. The camps provide an opportunity for the Ukrainian community to come together and celebrate their identity, and provide some respite for parents. You will be asked to assist with the running of games through the day, serving food, supporting with arts and crafts activities, as well as setting up and breaking down the equipment for the day. You can also join in with playing the games with the children. You will always have a staff member to refer to at any given moment. The day runs from 9am-3pm.

The Change Foundation

The Change Foundation is an award-winning charity that uses sport to change the lives of marginalised young people. Throughout the past 40-years they have successfully delivered award winning sports intervention programmes to vulnerable young people living in Croydon and Sutton, but also across London and even throughout the world. They specialise in direct mentoring programmes with hard to reach young people, meaning more contact time with a lower overall number of young people.
